The Burpee Mile
Loves the Outdoors!

The Burpee Mile is passionate about being outdoors. We feel that there is a growing disconnect between ourselves and our environment. This disconnect has been speculated to lead to a host of problems due to the lack of stimulation of our nervous system. The internalization of this short circuitry can lead to problems ranging from autoimmune dysfunctions, sleeping disorders, depression and general malaise, to more severe pathologies such as cancer. We at The Burpee Mile strive to have people get outside and get in contact with the world around them.

Get out of your comfort zone and remind your body what it is like to be one with your environment. Come outside and play.

Why Burpees?

Burpees were chosen because they are hard. We want to create a challenge that you may initially think of as impossible. When your Burpee Mile journey begins, you may feel nervous. That is okay. You can adapt your approach throughout the journey as needed to ensure completion.

Why did you create this?

We created the Burpee Mile to fill a void. There are many obstacle course challenges and running events such as a 5k, or half- or full marathon. We wanted to make something different. Something that could challenge your mind and body like no other. We wanted to create something so unorthodox that it would leave people feeling compelled and wanting to know more. We created The Burpee Mile so that all people, from all fitness levels can come together to learn and grow.

What incentive can you offer to individuals to participate besides to “challenge yourself”?

While it is true that this event is for each athlete to challenge themselves, there is a much deeper purpose. The Burpee Mile can be used to push yourself to new levels of mental duress that you have never experienced before. And yet each athlete is in charge of their own destiny; if it is seeming to be too much, ditch the burpees and just start walking. The bottom line is that The Burpee Mile can help build character and be a catalyst for self-development.

The Burpee Mile is also a social network used to support, promote, and encourage you on your journey through fitness. It is a new and refreshing way to challenge yourself. We help you to get out of your comfort zone and exceed what you perceived your limitations to be while increasing fitness and work capacity, one burpee at a time.

Do you have a fixed or growth mindset?

Fixed mindset: you are born with a set amount of talent, athleticism, creativity, capacity, and/or intelligence. Basically, your potential is already prescribed in your genetics.

Growth mindset: what we are born with is just the beginning. Through hard work, practice, humility, and perseverance, we are capable of doing things that we were not aware of. We can even surprise ourselves sometimes.

The Burpee Mile wants to challenge those with a fixed mindset. Those who could look at this event and conclude that there is no way this can be done. That this is impossible and a waste of time. That there is no purpose to this. People with this fixed mindset who may not understand that they are self-sabotaging their own development or personal growth.

Growth mindsets welcome challenges and see opportunities for self-improvement. The harder the challenge, the greater the possible return on personal growth. Embracing change and adversity instead of opposing it will set you up for better outcomes in life.

We encourage people to try to shift from their fixed mindset to one of growth. Doing so will help show character and poise one for success. The Burpee Mile can help people identify if they have a fixed mindset based off of their approach to this event. Do you immediately shrug it off as impossible? Do you instantly put it in the ‘hell no’ category in your head?

Well we encourage you to just say ‘maybe’. We encourage you to fight the urge to cast this event aside and explore what this could mean to you. Doing so will show that you are capable of a growth mindset and will carry over to all aspects of your life, including training, nutrition, relationships, and overall health.
